This state-of-the-art CT technology provides more precise cancer treatment and greater patient comfort. Nearly half of the 40% of Americans diagnosed with cancer will require radiation therapy in addition to surgery and chemotherapy as part of their treatment plan.
With more than 2,000 new diagnoses each year, ABSMC is one of the largest providers of cancer care in the Bay Area, offering advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies along with supportive services for patients throughout their cancer journey.
Linear accelerator technology has enabled radiation oncologists to better target cancer cells with high energy x-rays that conform to the shape of the patient’s tumor. Prior to radiation therapy treatment, patients must undergo a CT simulation during which they are positioned in the same way they will be treated while a CT scanner takes high resolution images of the body that enable clinicians to more precisely identify the location, shape, and size of tumors. CT simulation is key to protecting healthy tissue and delivering optimal treatment.
“Clear, detailed images are critical to everything we do. The CT scanner is the most powerful tool available for producing the high-quality images we need to develop the most effective treatment plans and deliver the safest, most precise radiation therapies. With donor support, we can acquire this technology and have an immediate and lasting impact on patient care.”
