The Hospice Bereavement Program at Sutter Care at Home offers individual and group support to those who have experienced the death of a loved one. All services are offered at no fee to individuals who had a loved one on Sutter Hospice. The bereavement groups are also free to community members. Adult Grief-Related Services

Spouse/Partner Loss (Sacramento and Davis)

Eight-week grief support group for adults grieving the death of a spouse or partner. Topics covered include acknowledging and understanding grief, expressing feelings, adjusting to role changes, developing supportive relationships, coping with stress, and navigating the holidays/anniversaries. Pre-enrollment required.

Parent Loss (Sacramento)

This eight-week grief support group provides an opportunity for adult men and women, who have experienced the death of a parent, to explore and gain understanding about the unique nature of this profound loss. Pre-enrollment required.

Children's Bereavement Art Group

This peer support group is for children and teens, ages 4-17 years old, grieving the death of a significant person in the last year. Art and creative activities are used to facilitate healthy self-expression and grief resolution. Children are placed in groups according to age, development and type of loss. 

Each group is facilitated by an art therapist with extensive background in childhood grief. The art therapist is assisted by trained volunteers.  The art therapist maintains regular phone contact with parents and guardians to discuss the child's progress in the group. A family night is held at the end of the program to which the child may invite family and friends to share the experiences of the group.

This 10-session group is held every other week over a five-month period, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. There is a waiting list. There is no charge for the group but donations are gladly accepted. To find out more information or to register for a group, please call (916) 887-5275.
