The Lung Nodule Clinic, offered at Sutter Roseville Medical Center and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, provides care to patients with lung masses or nodules found during screenings for lung cancer and imaging for other conditions.
Not all lung nodules are cancerous – in fact, most are not. Small masses, signs of recent infection or other findings in the lung are common. The Lung Nodule Clinic shortens the amount of time from diagnosis to care by determining the causes and treatment options for both benign (noncancerous) and malignant (cancerous) lung masses.
Patients referred to the Lung Nodule Clinic receive diagnosis and care from experts who use the latest technology, including CT, MRI and PET scanning, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy (ENB) and video-assisted thoracic surgery. A multidisciplinary committee of surgeons, pulmonologists, radiologists and oncologists reviews each case to determine the best course of care and to minimize unnecessary procedures or radiation exposure.
The clinic’s care team members help minimize anxiety and ensure patients receive the care needed to avoid more serious problems. In addition, patients have access to comprehensive support services through Sutter Cancer Centers, including smoking cessation classes, healthy lifestyle programs, nutrition services and integrated medicine care, including natural herbs, supplements and alternative therapies.
