Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., with nearly 2,200 Americans dying from diseases of the heart and blood vessels each day. These diseases are also among the leading causes of mortality in Sonoma County, where an increasing number of residents are living with one or more risk factors.
The Advanced Cardiovascular Care Expansion Project will increase SSRRH’s capacity to provide state-of-the-art cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment and make advanced life-saving emergency care available to patients in dire need. New technology and services will ensure best practices in cardiovascular care and provide:
- Life-Saving Cardiac Care: ECMO Program — The program will make CPR “hands free” so that patients can be immediately transported to the hospital and a new advanced life support system will allow the heart and lungs to rest during emergency cardiac procedures.
- State-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization — Several innovative new tools will enhance minimally invasive tests and procedures, including a cardiac mapping system for detailed 3D images, contrast delivery technology for clear and precise images of blood vessels, and a new automated CPR system that delivers consistent, high-quality CPR to patients during procedures.
- Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery — Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)—the gold standard in cardiology care—offers a minimally invasive alternative to open-heart surgery for treating severe aortic stenosis.
Access to the most advanced technologies is vital to achieving the best possible outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease. This project will help ensure patients have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services — especially during a life-threatening cardiac emergency when they are most critical.
