California Pacific Medical Center has support groups for people living with lung conditions such as COPD, asthma or pulmonary fibrosis. We also offer classes that can help you quit smoking or learn to better manage stress.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
At CPMC, our staff is committed to helping you breathe better, through a 10-week outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program.
Sessions include individual monitoring, supervised exercise, and classes on breathing techniques and the best use of inhalers and oxygen at home.
Most people who complete pulmonary rehab programs enjoy a better quality of life and less shortness of breath.

Better Breathers Club
The Better Breathers Club, sponsored by the American Lung Association, is a support group for people with COPD, pulmonary fibrosis or lung cancer and their family, friends and caregivers.
This group provides a safe, supportive environment where you can learn more about your condition, share your experiences with others and discover better ways to cope with lung disease.

Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group
The Central Valley Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group, organized by UC Davis Medical Center, holds its monthly gathering at the Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento. If you are affected by pulmonary fibrosis or would like to learn more about the condition, you are welcome to attend. This group offers education and social support. Topics may include:
- Diagnosis and treatment
- Nutrition
- Experimental therapies
- Pulmonary maintenance exercise

HealthFirst Program for Asthma Management
To help people with chronic diseases such as asthma, CPMC offers the innovative HealthFirst program at the Mission Bernal Campus. Trained community health workers and a respiratory care practitioner work with people to help them better manage their chronic diseases. As a result, many people have been able to reduce their medications and increase their energy.
