If you plan to deliver your baby at the California Pacific Medical Center campus, we ask that you pre-register during your second trimester. This way, we can anticipate your arrival and quickly admit you when you are in active labor. We look forward to taking care of you during this exciting time.
Pre-Register for Delivery
You can pre-register by phone at our Van Ness Campus, located at 1101 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco. Call the Patient Access Center at (855) 398-1637 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Tour Your Hospital
To prepare for the arrival of your baby, we encourage you to take a hospital tour about four to six weeks before your due date. (You can also watch this short video tour of the Birth Center.) Also get in touch with our Newborn Connections center for helpful resources such as prenatal classes, support groups, lactation services and breastfeeding and baby supplies.
When You're in Labor
When you begin to experience symptoms of labor and have consulted with your doctor or midwife, you should make your way to the OB/Gyn reception area. A nurse will examine you and consult with your physician or midwife to determine whether it’s time for you to be admitted. Do not be disappointed if you are not admitted on your first visit. It is very common for women to experience symptoms of labor and not yet be ready for admission.
CPMC’s OB/Gyn reception location:
- Van Ness Campus — Hospital lobby level at 1101 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco.
Upon admission, you will be taken into one of our private labor and delivery rooms, where you will stay during labor, the birth of your baby and during the recovery period immediately after birth. After you have recovered from the delivery of your baby, you will be moved to a private recovery room where you and your baby will stay until you are ready to go home.
