Featured Services
Nurturing Critical Care
Our team of more than 200 professionals operates the Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, providing around-the-clock care for your baby. The 55-bed NICU was designed by a caring, dedicated group of parents, doctors and nurses to be as comfortable and private as possible. While in the NICU, your baby will be cared for by a team of specialists, including neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, lactation consultants, respiratory therapists, discharge planners, social workers and audiologists.
Our care doesn't stop once your baby is discharged from the NICU. We offer ongoing support, with programs for parents like you so you can help your baby develop. In addition, we host an annual reunion so families can visit the doctors and nurses who cared for their babies. This special event brings together more than 200 families every year.
Special Programs with Special Support
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is proud to offer two special programs that provide extra support to you and your baby during your stay in the NICU.
- Compassionate Beginnings — Touch is the first sense your baby develops and a primary way you will connect with your infant in the NICU. The program teaches methods to help you effectively communicate and bond with your baby using the special language of touch.
- NICU Family Advisory Council — The council is a special group of former NICU parents and medical staff who provide emotional, educational and financial support to families going through the NICU experience.
