A robotic body-weight support system offers fall protection and dynamic support as you practice functional activities, such as walking, going from sitting to standing, getting off the floor and climbing stairs. Regardless of the activities you’re working on, this type of support system helps you challenge yourself while it protects you from falling.
Sutter Rehabilitation Institute uses the ZeroG® body-weight support system. It’s mounted on a robotic overhead track, providing freedom of movement. Dynamic body-weight support can be set to offload up to 200 pounds, making you feel as if you’re in a reduced-gravity environment. This allows you to practice therapy at high-intensity levels soon after an injury. As you progress, the amount of dynamic support can be decreased so you do more on your own. The computer interface also features TRiP, a fall prevention module that safely teaches how to recover from a slip or trip.
Sutter Rehabilitation Institute is the first rehabilitation hospital in the area to use this advanced technology.
You’ll need a physical therapy evaluation to determine if you’re a candidate to use the body-weight support system. It can be used for rehabilitation from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, post-COVID recovery, amputation and other orthopedic and neurological conditions.
