At Palo Alto Medical Foundation, we offer advanced consultation and treatment for children with prediabetes and other disorders of the endocrine system. Pediatric endocrinologists at PAMF provide comprehensive care to children and their families to stop the progression of disease and prevent complications.

To take part in the program, children must meet the following criteria:

• Be ages 3 through 18
• Have a body mass index (BMI) greater than the 85th percentile
• Have at least one cholesterol or blood sugar-related abnormality on laboratory testing through the patient's primary care physician

Program Description

We take a team approach to your child's care. You will meet with a doctor and a nutritionist for 30 minutes each to discuss the following:

• Hormonal causes of obesity
• Your child’s diet and exercise regimen
• Lab abnormalities
• An individualized management plan tailored to both your child’s and your family’s specific needs.

After your initial visit, we typically see your child one month later, then every three months thereafter. Your child will have a blood test before the first visit in order to monitor progress of any obesity-related lab abnormalities.
