At CPMC, neurosurgical specialists provide advanced treatment of complex conditions of the brain, spine and central nervous system, including pituitary tumors, epilepsy, cysts and spinal abnormalities. In addition to traditional surgical methods such as craniotomy, our surgical team offers minimally-invasive options.
Our specialized Endoscopic Endonasal Pituitary and Skull Base Surgery Program offers advanced treatment for pituitary tumors in an effective and minimally invasive manner. Program members include a multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, otorhinolaryngology specialists, endocrinologists, radiation oncologists, neuro-ophthalmology specialists, neuroradiologists and neuro-interventional surgery specialists.
Endoscopic endonasal pituitary and skull base surgery is the latest innovation in the treatment of complex tumors and pathologies located in this area. This minimally invasive technique, through the nose and sinuses, allows the surgeon to locate and access these tumors at the base of the skull.
Radiosurgery also offers outstanding outcomes for people who either can’t have invasive treatment due to the location of a lesion or tumor or choose not to have an invasive procedure. At CPMC, the BrainLab® treatment planning system is capable of generating a highly focused plan for complex skull base tumors, minimizing the treatment dose to the surrounding adjacent critical structures. Radiosurgery is delivered with sub-millimeter accuracy using the Exactrac® cranial tracking system and an external head mold using skeletal anatomy to accurately target the radiation beam.
Stroke, aneurysm or other conditions affecting the blood vessels in the brain require immediate treatment. CPMC’s state-of-the-art neurovascular and neurointerventional surgery suite enables specialists to quickly provide diagnosis and treatment in the same suite without moving from one area of the hospital to another. The suite converts instantly from a neurointerventional radiology suite into a micro-surgical suite for vascular brain surgery.
