When you complete cancer treatment, you may wonder, “What’s next?” Survivorship is the personal journey of living with, through and beyond cancer. In the Sutter Health network, we offer many special programs and events to help guide you through this new phase of life and put you on the path to wellness.
Living Beyond Cancer Plan
If you have breast or prostate cancer, you may work with one of PAMF's Nurse Navigators to organize and keep track of follow-up treatments, next steps and important information needed to coordinate care among your primary and specialty doctors, now and in the future. PAMF also offers assistance with all aspects of your self-care, including nutritional counseling with registered dietitians, psychosocial support with oncology social workers, and complementary therapy programs to restore body and soul.
Healing and Fitness Classes
Explore therapies that interest you under the guidance of staff who will encourage your return to whole health. You’ll also benefit from the camaraderie of others on the same path. Classes across the Sutter Health network include art, gardening, music, photography, writing, yoga, cycling and more.
Survivorship Classes and Events
Sutter care centers have classes, luncheons, guest talks and other events for adults who have completed cancer treatment. Certain Sutter sites offer a free, six-week survivorship series. Each session begins with gentle exercises, followed by discussion and support on topics such as getting back to wellness, post-cancer exercise, emotional health and well-being, nutrition, medical management beyond cancer and moving beyond survivorship.
Prostate Cancer Buddy Program
Even in the context of outstanding treatment, it's rare that someone with cancer gets to speak leisurely and honestly with a cancer survivor—someone who understands prostate cancer as no one else can. PAMF's Prostate Cancer Buddy program matches patients with recent prostate cancer survivors for regular communication by phone, email or face-to-face. If you're interested in becoming a Prostate Cancer Buddy, inquire about this program. All volunteers are screened, trained and provided ongoing education.
Cancer Survivorship Conference
This annual, free, one-day event at Memorial Medical Center supports cancer survivors, caregivers and medical staff by offering inspirational talks from keynote speakers, breakout sessions and exhibits, and up-to-date resources and encouragement from local cancer community partners, support groups and more.
