Dealing with all the new emotions and decisions surrounding your diagnosis can be overwhelming. Nurse navigators know that your health and peace of mind are an important part of your treatment. PAMF has breast cancer navigators available at all sites, and a prostate cancer navigator available at our Palo Alto site. These professionals help explain your options and listen to your concerns. They serve as liaisons between you, your doctors and your family.
Research has shown that having a nurse navigator during treatment allows people to better focus on healing—and feel empowered knowing that an advocate is on their side.
Your nurse navigator will:
- Facilitate your recovery and rehabilitation planning—before, during and after treatment.
- Help you make informed decisions about your care, serving as your educator, advocate and guide.
- Coordinate your appointments with medical team members and facilitate your communications with doctors.
- Teach you and your family members to manage side effects and provide you and your family with support services, including emotional support.
