Adult Outpatient Eating Disorder Program
Adult outpatient eating disorder services are available for participants who are at a more advanced stage of recovery. The goal of the program is to provide the necessary structure for continued growth and stability during recovery.
The program welcomes a diverse community of patients, which enhances the recovery process. Participants are involved in groups throughout the day and return home in the evening, with no group sessions on the weekends. The program is also structured to provide meals and snacks.
Patients meet individually with a psychiatrist, dietician and social worker on a regular basis. In addition to group therapy, each participant also has an individualized treatment plan and meal plan. Support groups for participants, family members and loved ones are provided on a bimonthly basis. Family therapy is provided when appropriate.
The group schedule consists of dialectical and cognitive-behavioral therapy, process groups, relaxation training, nutrition, art and drama therapy, and body image and movement groups. The program addresses distorted self-perception and thinking, codependency and dysfunctional relationships, and core beliefs that may contribute to the eating disorder. Psychoeducation is provided to give patients a better understanding of the underlying causes and triggers of their eating disorder. Treatment also focuses on relapse prevention, and the tools and strategies needed for coping.
All groups are facilitated by experienced clinicians who are dedicated to making a difficult process as rewarding as possible. Through healing and self-discovery, participants gain compassion and support that helps change their relationships with food and their bodies. Our treatment team provides participants with the support they need to transition back to daily living and helps them gain the necessary tools and confidence that will allow them to live a healthy and productive life.
