Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley is the designated regional trauma center for southern Alameda County. The only Level II trauma center verified by the American College of Surgeons serving the local community and accepting patients from as far as a 50 mile radius, the center was certified in 1987. To retain trauma certification, Eden engages the community in education and prevention efforts around the top three causes of trauma:
- Motor vehicle collisions, including bicycle and pedestrian crashes – 34% of all Eden trauma patients;
- Injuries from falls – 51%
- Violence – 12%
