Transforming Women's Care in San Francisco
You can be a catalyst in transforming women's care in San Francisco. Thanks to visionary philanthropic partners, women cared for by CPMC’s Gynecology and Women’s Health specialists get the expertise of an academic medical center combined with the compassion and convenience of their local community hospital.
The Sutter CPMC Center for Women's Health Care
The new Sutter CPMC Center for Women's Health Care combines state-of-the-art technology and integrated care in a modern space, integrating CPMC’s premium women’s programs, including:
- Women’s Health Resource Center (WHRC) — The WHRC offers classes, support groups, massage therapy, a cancer boutique, the Ovarian and Reproductive Cancer Recovery Program and a Mini-Medical School on Women’s Health.
- Ovarian and Reproductive Cancer Recovery Program — Women undergoing treatment for uterine, ovarian, vaginal, vulvar, and peritoneal cancer can receive education and services tailored to each patient’s unique needs. To ensure that every woman who needs it has access to this supportive care, the program is free and funded by philanthropy.
- Notkin Family Breast Cancer Recovery Program — Since it was founded in 2004, the program has helped more than 25,000 women and serves about 2,000 patients and their families every year, free of charge. The nurse navigators provide support for breast biopsy procedures, breast cancer diagnoses, treatment options and survivorship plans. CPMC's Health Psychology Team provides individual counseling and support groups.
- Breast Health Center — Is San Francisco’s leader in providing imaging, exams and procedures — more than 45,000 at CPMC each year. The Women’s Health Center will house seven state-of-the-art breast tomosynthesis machines for 3D mammography.
- Pelvic Health Clinic — CPMC is a leader in treating women with urinary incontinence, and is an accredited Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecology by the Surgical Review Corporation.
More Giving Opportunities in Women's Health
- Dr. Goodson Breast Cancer Research Fund — Your gift will help fund vital research into how environmental toxins such as BPA in can linings and PFOA in Teflon can influence the development of breast cancer.
- Dr. Michael Katz Cervical Cerclage Research Fund — Supports a critical procedure used in obstetrics care when a woman’s cervix is at risk of opening under the pressure of the growing pregnancy. The program studies and shares with the community new and proven techniques on preventing miscarriage or premature labor.
- Gynecologic Oncology — Dr. John Chan's research efforts—funded in part by philanthropy—give gynecologic cancer patients at CPMC access to more clinical trials than any other medical center on the West Coast.
Hospital Highlights
- CPMC's Division of Gynecology has earned a Top 50 national ranking from U.S. News and World Report.
- More benign and malignant gynecologic surgeries are performed at CPMC than any other hospital in San Francisco.
- By adding 3D mammography to the screening process, the overall detection rate for breast cancers increases 27 percent. All 3D mammography units at CPMC’s nationally accredited Breast Health Center were funded by philanthropy.
