Sutter care centers have a variety of services to help older adults and their caregivers lead more active and well-balanced lives. Contact your doctor to find out what services are available to you in your area.
My Health Online
This tool, universal to the Sutter Health network, helps you and your family members have instant access to healthcare information, including the ability to make appointments, contact your doctor, renew prescriptions and view your chart and test results. My Health Online also gives family members who live far away the ability to participate in their loved one’s care.
Insurance Counseling
At some Sutter locations, patients and their family members can schedule a free, one-hour consultation with an insurance counselor. Counselors can answer questions about Medicare and supplemental insurance policies, including HMOs and long-term care coverage. Counselors can help you select the best supplemental insurance for your needs, and help you set up a system to make it easier to file claims. Some locations also offer a fee-based service for more detailed assistance with filing claims.
Adult Day Health Care
Adult Day Health Care helps people sustain their highest level of independence by offering activities, nursing, occupational, speech and physical therapies and social services. These programs are provided at select Sutter locations throughout Northern California, so ask your doctor if one is near you.
Adult day health programs can help older adults improve physical and mental skills. We also monitor participants’ overall health and medication needs, and we provide social workers to connect people with other community resources. The programs give older adults social connections, as well as healthcare, and can reduce the sense of isolation many people feel with age. Older adults attend the programs two to five days a week, depending on their needs. Certain locations also provide specific programs for people with memory loss.
Resource Centers, Classes and Events
Education and information are an essential part of a healthy life as an older adult. Sutter care centers have classes and support groups to help seniors improve their well-being, avoid falls, and cope with the challenges that come with this stage of life. Check Classes and Events to find a class near you.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Getting to the doctor can sometimes be difficult for older adults and their families. Geriatricians in select areas make house calls to some retirement communities. Where this is offered, we work closely with the retirement center’s staff to treat all our patients’ needs and ensure the highest quality of life.
In addition, many older adults spend some time in hospitals or nursing homes during illness or recovery. Geriatricians in the Sutter Health network can help coordinate on-site medical care during these times.
Select Sutter Health affiliates also offer residential care. Mills-Peninsula Medical Center provides a skilled nursing facility in Burlingame and an extended care facility in San Mateo.
Collaboration with Community Partners
Sutter Health works with an array of community partners to provide the most comprehensive range of services for older adults and their caregivers. Ask your doctor what services are available in your community.
