If your child was born with a congenital defect, know that you and your family are not alone. Congenital defects affect one in every 33 babies born in the United States each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. At Sutter Children's Center, Sacramento, our goal is to enhance your child's life and give you the support and guidance you need.
We work with you to develop a treatment plan that sees your child through surgery and comprehensive rehabilitation. The plan will consider your child's health, emotional concerns and anticipated physical growth to determine the best timing for treatments. You will have a chance to review the plan with your child's physician and family before making any decisions.
For the very best treatment and outcomes, a team of medical specialists work together to provide your child with medical care. Under the medical direction of a plastic/craniofacial surgeon and a geneticist, that team may include an orthodontist, oral surgeon, pediatric dentist, pediatrician, pediatric nurses, pediatric nutritionists, Child Life specialists and ear, nose and throat surgeons.
