At Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center of Santa Cruz, our breastfeeding and lactation specialists are focused on helping all new mothers provide the best nutrition for their newborns. We offer all the support you need, including classes and specialized equipment.

Research suggests that breastfeeding can lower your child’s risk of developing asthma, ear infections, eczema, Type 2 diabetes and leukemia, according to the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding your child for at least 12 months, and feeding only breast milk to your child for the first six months of their lives.

Lactation Counseling Services

Our highly-skilled, board certified lactation consultants can provide valuable education and counseling about breastfeeding and care for your baby. If you would like support for your breastfeeding needs, you can schedule an appointment by calling (831) 477-2229. There is a fee for this service, and a bill will be provided to you so that you can be reimbursed by your insurance company.

Breast Pump Rentals

We rent Medela Symphony, Classic and Lactina pumps. All are auto-cycling electric breast pumps with the capacity for double or single pumping. We can help you determine the best pump for your needs.
