Health professionals worldwide agree breastfeeding provides huge benefits to both baby and mother. At California Pacific Medical Center, our team of medical specialists provide support and information as you make that very personal and important decision after your baby’s birth.

We understand breastfeeding comes with many questions, concerns and occasionally challenges. We are here both during your pregnancy and after delivery to provide all the tools you need for successful and continued breastfeeding. Successful breastfeeding is a combination of patience, good technique and support.

Our breastfeeding services include:

• Lactation consultation
• Breast pump rentals and sales
• Nursing bras and supplies

Private Lactation Consultation

After delivering your baby, our nurses and nurse-midwives are on hand to provide breastfeeding education and address common problems and concerns. After you go home, we offer ongoing lactation assistance in person or over the phone from specially trained experts whose goal is to enhance your breastfeeding experience.

We recommend that you schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant if you:

• Suspect a problem, or simply need reassurance.
• Saw a lactation consultant in the hospital and continue to have concerns, such as adequate milk supply or pain during feeding.
• Use a nipple shield.
• Have a preemie or multiples.

During the initial consultation, you’ll be paired with one of our International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC). She will review any concerns you are having, observe you and your baby during a feeding, offer guidance and a care plan to ensure that both you and your baby are getting the most out of breastfeeding. A follow-up visit is generally recommended to review your technique and answer any new questions.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Stop by our Breastfeeding Support Group and get tips and support for adjusting to life as a new mom. Ask your breastfeeding questions and more! Offered every Tuesday and Friday except holidays, 10:00 am – 11:30 am at the California East Campus. 

Breast Pump Rentals and Sales

Whether you are returning to work or simply want more flexibility in your breastfeeding schedule, breast pumps can help make feeding your baby more convenient. Our Newborn Connections Outpatient Lactation Centers sell and rent a variety of breast pumps and accessories. Our staff is available to help you determine which style is best for your needs.

We also offer maternity, breastfeeding and baby essentials—including maternity wear, baby clothes and infant carriers. Our on-staff bra fitters can help you find the most comfortable and supportive nursing bra in sizes ranging from 32A to 50K.
