We hope your stay at Sutter Rehabilitation Institute is both satisfying and rewarding as we work together to help you achieve your highest level of function. Making progress toward greater independence through therapy is a key reason for you being here.
When you begin your care, we’ll conduct a thorough assessment and work with you and your family to develop a personal, goal-oriented treatment plan. Our rehabilitation programs involve active participation and a little hard work to achieve the highest level of function possible. You will likely need some assistance when you leave Sutter Rehabilitation Institute, so your family or caregivers will be provided with training as well.
Your treatment goals may include:
- Increase independence in daily living activities such as dressing, bathing and eating meals
- Toileting and bladder and bowel management
- Bed, chair, toilet and tub or shower transfers
- Walking and/or wheelchair propulsion
- Navigating stairs
- Improve cognitive abilities such as comprehension, expression, interaction, problem solving and memory
- Safe mobility with or without adaptive equipment
- Improve balance and coordination
- Mental and social adjustment for you and your family
- Maximize communication skills
- Improve swallowing ability
- Awareness of available community resources
- Medication management
- Managing your lifestyle to meet medical needs such as diabetes or heart disease
We’ll provide you with your daily treatment schedule. Your schedule may occasionally change due to appointments you have or unforeseen circumstances.
To achieve your goals, you’ll participate in activities that include:
- One-on-one therapy
- Group treatment
- Community re-entry and adaptive leisure activities
- Patient and family education
- Individualized goal-directed activities
