Being unable to complete daily tasks following a stroke or injury can be frustrating and discouraging. The occupational therapists at Sutter Rehabilitation Institute will work with you to develop, improve and restore the skills you need to regain optimal independence.
Highly-trained occupational therapists teach you new ways to perform daily activities such as dressing, bathing, writing or cooking. The therapists will work with you to develop personalized goals for improving your independence.
This might include therapeutic activities designed to improve the strength and coordination in your arms and hands. Your occupational therapist can help you learn how to use adaptive devices or utilize compensatory strategies to help you complete everyday tasks.
Often your physical and occupational therapists will work together to ensure safe mobility and transfers.
Community Services and Follow-Up Clinic
Inpatient rehabilitation is only the first step of the rehabilitation journey. As needed, our team will refer you to follow-up services, home or community-based rehabilitation or outpatient therapies.
After you leave inpatient rehabilitation, you can also take part in the Follow-Up Clinic offered by Sutter Rehabilitation Institute doctors.
During Follow-Up Clinic days, a doctor, neuropsychologist or rehabilitation specialist can check on the progress of people who recently left the inpatient program. This clinic provides a continuum of care for our patients.
