When you’re recovering from a spinal cord injury, you want a team of specially trained doctors, therapists and nurses at your side to help you succeed. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department offers many types of minimally and non-invasive treatments to restore function and help you regain as much independence as possible.
At PAMF, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, also known as physiatrists, care for people with acute and chronic pain, and people who have experienced catastrophic events resulting in paraplegia, quadriplegia or traumatic brain injury.
Among the conditions we treat are:
- Lower back and neck pain
- Repetitive strain injuries
- Stroke
- Brain and spinal cord injury
We use many types of treatment to restore function, including:
- Pain control measures to help people participate more fully in the rehabilitation program
- Spinal cord stimulation
- Therapeutic injections to control pain and inflammation
- Therapeutic exercise to regain flexibility, strength and endurance
