When your nerves are injured or you have a neurological condition that impairs your ability to complete everyday tasks, outpatient rehabilitation therapy can help. Across the Sutter Health network, neurological rehabilitation specialists deliver comprehensive services to infants, children, adolescents, adults and seniors on an as-needed basis.
Outpatient rehabilitation services are typically provided at a special rehabilitation clinic or through appointments at a Sutter Health medical center. Physical and occupational therapists can help you improve your body’s mobility, strength and motor skills, while speech-language pathologists can help with communication and cognition problems.
Rehabilitative specialists often treat people with neurological problems including Parkinson's disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, Guillain Barré disease, traumatic brain injuries and other serious neurological diagnoses. Services can include:
- Activities of daily living retraining
- Aphasia and voice disorders treatment
- Aquatic therapy
- Cerebrovascular accident rehabilitation

- Dysphagia treatment (swallowing problems)
- Orthotic and prosthetic training
- Patient and family education and training
