It’s not uncommon for children to have trouble expressing themselves in words. At Sutter Children’s Center, we believe music has an extraordinary power to reduce the trauma associated with hospitalization, reduce pain and the perception of pain, encourage emotional expression and support healing and wellness.
We are pleased to offer a dedicated music therapy service to help your child cope with the emotional and physical issues they may be dealing with. Our therapists work with children and their families to provide an individualized approach to therapy, tailoring activities to the age, condition and preferences of each patient.
Music therapy interventions may include:
- Listening to music to promote relaxation.
- Writing songs to express thoughts and feelings.
- Singing.
- Music improvisation — making music together.
- Moving to music.
- Guided relaxation.
- Song lyric analysis.
Music therapy is facilitated by board-certified music therapists who hold the MT-BC credential from the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Sutter Children’s Center is proud to partner with the team at McConnell Music Therapy Services, Inc. to offer this valuable service to our patients.
In addition, patients of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, and our Sutter Cancer Centers, also have access to music therapy service. The program is a free service, generously funded by the Sutter Medical Center Foundation.
