Biofeedback assists children in managing health problems through muscle awareness. Biofeedback has proven very useful for children with anxiety and stress, asthma, vocal cord dysfunction, cystic fibrosis, bowel dysfunction, headaches, chronic pain and sleep disorders.
How does biofeedback work?
During biofeedback sessions, a skilled specialist attaches painless sensors to your child’s body, which provide information or feedback to a state-of-the-art computer program. By observing such signals as muscle tension, skin temperature and breathing patterns, problem areas can be identified and appropriate therapies determined.
For instance, the specialist can help a child with chronic headaches address the underlying cause of pain by regulating his or her breathing patterns and muscle tension.
In most cases, basic techniques can be learned in 6 to 10 weeks.
Will insurance cover biofeedback?
Most insurance companies cover biofeedback treatment sessions. Before making an appointment, you need a referral from a specialist or primary care doctor. Please contact us at (415) 600-0750 if you have questions regarding coverage.
