Proper nutrition is the key to maintaining health at all ages. Healthy eating leads to optimal growth and development in children, helps prevent high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and reduces the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. And, it’s never too late to improve your eating habits. If you already have a chronic disease, dietary changes may help prevent complications.
When you need help understanding food choices, turn to registered dietitian nutritionists at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Together, we can design a nutrition plan based on the most current research and your medical and nutritional needs and lifestyle.
A registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) is a trained expert in food and nutrition. In addition to earning a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university, registered dietitians complete at least 1,200 hours of supervised practice. They must pass a national exam (many also complete advanced education) and must maintain their certification through continuing education.
At PAMF, you can meet with a registered dietitian nutritionist for education, coaching and counseling to make lifestyle changes. We also offer all-ages intervention for nutrition-related diagnoses, such as gastrointestinal conditions (celiac, IBS, SIBO, IBD-Crohn’s, colitis), liver disease, kidney disease, food allergies, heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Topics that benefit from leading-edge nutrition guidelines include geriatric nutrition, women’s health, cancer prevention, diabetes management, integrative nutrition, weight management and sports nutrition. We can also provide the latest input and advice on vegetarian and vegan eating, menu planning, and vitamin and supplement information.
