Pediatric and Adolescent Headache Clinic
Children of all ages experience headaches, but the causes vary—a bang on the head, for instance, or stress from worrying about a test at school. Lack of sleep or hunger could also be the cause. The Pediatric Headache Clinic at CPMC provides pediatric-focused care for children and adolescents with chronic daily headaches, migraines, cluster headaches and tension headaches. Our clinic offers prompt and convenient appointments for comprehensive evaluation and management of headaches.
We emphasize streamlined care designed to reduce headaches and restore optimal quality of life as quickly as possible. Patients receive a comprehensive evaluation by a multidisciplinary team who works together to create individualized treatment plans. This team includes a pediatric neurologist, nurse practitioner, biofeedback specialist and a social worker who specializes in psychosocial assessment of children living with chronic pain. We also have a dietitian who can identify food triggers and dietary prevention techniques.
By the end of the initial clinic visit, your child will have an individualized plan that includes:
- Abortive therapy for individual headache episodes, using migraine-proven treatments.
- Preventive therapy, both with and without prescription medications.
- Recognition of headache triggers and an understanding of the importance lifestyle changes to manage these triggers.
