In the Sutter Health network, our goal is to reduce stroke risk and lessen its impact on the lives of our patients and their families. We offer opportunities to learn about stroke prevention and how to reduce your risk of stroke. We also offer support groups for stroke patients and their caregivers.
Stroke Prevention Education
There are two groups who benefit from our stroke prevention programs. We offer classes and support groups to lower stroke risk in people who have had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (also called a TIA). We also offer educational programs for people who are at risk for a stroke, including anyone with diabetes, prediabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides or other conditions that increase stroke risk.
Smoking Cessation Classes
Cigarette smoking is a leading risk factor of stroke. We offer smoking cessation classes throughout Northern California to help you quit.
Stroke Support Groups
Connecting with others who have experienced strokes can be especially helpful during recovery and beyond. We offer a number of support groups, special events and social gatherings to give stroke survivors and their caregivers the opportunity to share ideas and experiences.
If you’re seeking support in Sacramento, monthly meetings are available at the Buhler Specialty Pavilion at 2800 L Street. The meetings take place on the 3rd Friday of each month from 12:30-230pm in Buhler Classroom 1. For more information contact Melody Kasick (916) 568-1726.
Caregiver Support Groups
We provide support groups that allow caregivers to connect with others sharing the experience of caring for a loved one who has experienced a stroke or requires care for another life-limiting disability.
Stress Reduction
Stress affects all of us, but for those at risk of stroke or dealing with a stroke’s effects, learning how to manage and reduce stress can be extremely helpful.

BE FAST to Spot a Stroke
With stroke, you need to BE FAST. Time is critical for a stroke victim. Each minute, two million brains cells die. Learn the signs of stroke, and use Sutter’s BE FAST materials to spread awareness.
