Stroke Care and Recovery
Quick treatment and a clear path to recovery can mean all the difference after a stroke. Our Continuum of Care Infographic (PDF) illustrates the potential paths of recovery most patients face when first receiving care and recovering from a stroke.
Mills-Peninsula Stroke Program Outcomes
We are proud to share results of the thrombectomy procedure performed by our cutting edge neurointerventionists. Our stroke program strives to give the best possible care to those suffering from a stroke by following the latest treatment guidelines and offering advanced technologies. Below are recent outcomes from Mills-Peninsula Medical Center:
Blood Flow Restoration
When a stroke is happening due to a blood vessel being blocked, the goal of emergent treatment is to restore blood flow to the brain. A neurointerventional specialist performs a procedure called a thrombectomy to remove the clot and restore blood flow to the brain. In 2022, Mills-Peninsula Medical Center restored blood flow for patients presenting with large clotting strokes 95% at a higher rate than other hospitals

Time is of the Essence
Stroke Treatment is time sensitive. Every minute there is a disruption of blood flow to the brain 2 million brain cells can be lost. Here at Mills Peninsula Medical Center, we are proud of the ability to provide stroke treatment quickly. Patients presenting with significant disability related to stroke and undergo thrombectomy have their interventional procedure started quicker than other hospitals providing similar services.

- A Telestroke Program that allows people to be seen by doctors 24 hours a day. At night, when a doctor is not available in person, Telestroke uses video teleconferencing to connect local doctors with leading stroke care specialists.
- Advanced stroke rehabilitation that incorporates physical, occupational and speech therapies.
- A Mobile Stroke Unit that has an ambulance staffed with stroke specialists who can assess and begin treatment on a person experiencing a stroke even before they reach the emergency room.
