CPMC’s Liver Disease and Transplant Program sees nearly 1,000 new liver disease patients and performs more than 60 liver transplants annually (over 2,000 since 1988). Specialized and caring transplant hepatologists and surgeons at CPMC work at the forefront of both clinical research and surgical innovations.

An “expected” patient survival rate is calculated based on patient and donor characteristics, such as age and patient diagnosis. A “statistically higher” difference between observed and expected value shows an extremely high quality of patient care.

We are committed to providing exemplary care and publicly reporting our transplant outcomes. Accordingly, CPMC regularly reports transplant outcomes and data to the national Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients. Liver Transplant Data from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN).

National Award for Liver Transplant Outcomes

In 2012, CPMC’s Liver Transplant Program received the U.S. Health and Human Services Transplant Program Silver Level Award at the Silver level in 2012. The medical center won the award for obtaining “better than expected” outcomes in two key categories: post-transplant survival rates, and lower patient mortality rates after being placed on the transplant waiting list. 

CPMC was one of only five out of 137 liver transplant programs nationwide to receive the Silver-level honor, placing our program in the nation’s top four percent based on critically important criteria.
