Nearly one out of every 100 babies born is born with a heart defect. Congenital heart defects can be diagnosed prior to birth and at birth. In some cases the heart defect can go undetected until the child reaches youth or adulthood. Some acquired heart defects that develop during childhood are cardiomyopathy and kawasaki disease.
Within our Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery Program, congenital cardiothoracic services are provided through the coordinated resources of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. Patients and families not only receive excellent congenital cardiothoracic care, but also access to advanced technology and comprehensive services. We are a regional referral center for congenital cardiothoracic care for patients throughout Northern California.
