Prenatal and New Parenting Classes
Pregnancy is an exciting time, full of physical and emotional changes. When you’re expecting a baby, you and your partner may have questions about these transformations as well as the upcoming birth and postpartum period. Being well-informed and prepared will give you the confidence to create a calmer and more satisfying pregnancy, labor and birth.
PAMF offers a variety of classes to help expectant couples prepare for and feel more confident about pregnancy and parenthood.
- We offer Childbirth Preparation Classes and Prenatal Yoga at different times and in various formats so you can choose what best fits your schedule and goals.
- Your ability to keep yourself healthy — body, mind and spirit — is essential to the well-being of your growing family. Our postpartum classes and support groups can help you gain the skills you need to feel confident and to smoothly transition into parenthood.
- In-person and online breastfeeding classes will teach you strategies to get breastfeeding off to a solid start. Lactation consultants can help with the mechanics of breastfeeding, breastfeeding problems and return-to-work issues. They can also help you interpret the baby’s signals and reconcile conflicting information on baby care and breastfeeding.
- Baby care classes help you know what to expect in those first weeks after baby's arrival. Baby Basics and Safety classes cover topics ranging from hands-on practices to buying safe nursery and home equipment.
Mindfulness and Stress Reduction Classes
Research shows that mindfulness techniques can help alleviate anxiety, stress and depression. PAMF has a variety of mindfulness offerings, including our core eight-week, formal Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) series, as well as Midafternoon Meditation and Free Gentle Yoga. For those interested in MBSR, a free orientation session is held a week or so before the beginning of the next class if you would like to learn more before joining.
