Diabetes and its precursor, prediabetes, are major health problems in the United States. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates 40 percent of Americans will be diagnosed with diabetes at some point in their lifetime. Type 2 diabetes, formerly called adult-onset diabetes, accounts for 90 to 95 percent of all diabetes cases in the U.S.
In the Sutter Health network, we’re committed to helping people with diabetes live a healthy, full life. The Diabetes Council, a multidisciplinary team of diabetes leaders across Northern California, works to share best practices and the latest research to ensure you receive the best in diabetes care.
At Sutter Amador Hospital, we offer inpatient diabetes care. However, we partner with Sutter Medical Foundation to provide comprehensive outpatient care. Our network offers services including:
Diabetes Self-Management Education
Our diabetes self-management education (DSME) program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Taught by certified diabetes educators, DSME training can help you learn the seven self-care behaviors that will help you live a full and healthy life.
Medical Nutrition Therapy
At locations in the Sutter Health network throughout Northern California, registered dietitians work closely with you through medical nutrition therapy to design personalized eating plans to help control your diabetes and improve your health.
Diabetes Weight Management Programs
Break old patterns and develop new, rewarding habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle and long-term weight loss.
Insulin Pump Programs
An insulin pump can give you added freedom and flexibility. We offer programs to help you learn about the options and choose what’s best for you.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring
This testing system captures blood sugar measurement every five minutes, for at least three days. At the end of the test period, you and your doctor can use the data to customize your treatment plan.
