Restore the beauty of your face, hips or breasts with fat grafting, a procedure that uses your own body fat as a natural, biocompatible and longer lasting filler.
Also called fat transfer, this outpatient procedure is designed to minimize wrinkles and fill in parts of your face or body that have lost volume. It can also reduce scarring and correct skin deformities. You may be a good candidate for fat grafting if you have:
- Deep Facial scars, such as from acne.
- Decreased facial volume due to diseases such as hemifacial atrophy.
- Small depressed areas in sections of your body, such as around your breasts.
Fat grafting is performed with a small needle. Excess fat is removed from an area of your body, such as the abdomen or buttocks. Once removed, the fat is processed to remove excess fluids. It is then injected just under the skin in areas that need plumping or filling out. Since fat grafting uses your own fat cells, there is no risk of your body rejecting the tissue.
People who get this minimally invasive procedure are sometimes able to resume their normal activities right away. Some bruising, swelling and redness may be present for up to three weeks in both the area where fat was removed and in the area where it was re-injected. Surgeons usually inject excess filler to allow for fat reabsorption, so expect your treatment area to look a bit swollen for about a week before you enjoy the desired results of the treatment.
