Emotional distress–anxiety, worry, feeling overwhelmed, sadness and depression–are relatively common experiences for women and their partners when they are trying to conceive, pregnant or after childbirth. Unfortunately, many women often endure these experiences in silence and in isolation. Whether you are pregnant, have a new baby, are trying to conceive, or have had an abortion, there is help and support out there for you.
At California Pacific Medical Center, our Perinatal Health and Wellness Program provides support services for families during times of tremendous transition. For new mothers especially, it can be difficult to recognize one’s own struggles during this period, which is a time expected to be full of joy and hope. There may also be stigma or shame about needing help. But, if you’re asking yourself whether you should reach out for help, the answer is probably yes.
