Millions of adults and children in the United States have asthma, a common chronic disease that can be treated and managed with the right tools. As part of Sutter’s comprehensive asthma care, we offer a variety of resources to help you successfully manage your asthma so that you can be symptom-free as often as possible.
Personal Consultations
To take control of your asthma, you may benefit from a one-on-one consultation with one of our asthma experts. Meeting individually with an asthma expert can help you pinpoint what you need to do to participate in activities, prevent asthma attacks in the future, get a good night’s sleep and maintain healthy lungs throughout your life.
Your primary care doctor and/or pulmonologist is also a great resource for asthma support. You should schedule at least two “asthma only” appointments annually with your doctor to review and update your Asthma Action Plan.
Classes and Training
Asthma management programs and asthma classes are available throughout the Sutter Health network for both adults and children. The goals of these programs are to teach you what causes asthma, how to identify and avoid your triggers, how to use your Asthma Action Plan, when to use your medications and how to monitor your status.
If you are prescribed an asthma inhaler device, we offer hands-on training sessions with asthma educators or licensed respiratory care practitioners to teach you how to manage your asthma with medication.
We also offer a self-guided, online asthma management class, which includes videos and handouts on asthma triggers, medications, devices and more.
