To ensure patients in the East Bay have access to the best possible prostate cancer care, PAMF’s Department of Urology has identified the need to purchase a state-of-the-art UroNav MRI/US Fusion Prostate Biopsy System for the Alameda Division. A prostate biopsy is the only medical procedure to diagnose prostate cancer and historically it was performed using ultrasound guidance, but this method has limitations in accuracy. In the last decade, prostate MRI has evolved as a very accurate method to identify possible tumors in the prostate. This new system allows clinicians to superimpose detailed MRI images over ultrasound images to more precisely target suspicious prostate lesions, increasing the detection of dangerous prostate cancers and avoiding unnecessary biopsies.
