CPMC’s Mission Bernal Campus & Orthopedic Institute promotes safe and peaceful healing in a green, environmentally sustainable setting.
This 120-bed hospital is built to cut greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the use of energy and water:
- 50,000 gallons of rainwater will be captured for irrigation and to dissipate heat from the building’s rooftop cooling towers.
- Low-flow plumbing will save over 1 million gallons of water each year.
- A new pedestrian plaza will provide an urban oasis with permeable landscape that will drain approximately 360,000 gallons of storm water annually from the storm and sewer system.
- Inside, sustainable materials used in flooring, pain, furniture, cabinets and carpet eliminate off-gassing of harmful fumes.
