Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is proud to provide two special waiting areas, or Family Resource Centers, at our Berkeley and Oakland campuses. Each center is designed to maximize the comfort of our guests and visitors.
Family Resource Centers offer a unique and quiet setting where friends and family members can read, relax and reflect, while waiting for a loved one or friend to be discharged from a surgery or medical procedure. You will find comfortable chairs and sofas and an assortment of current and topical magazines. An assortment of current and topical magazines. In addition, there is free Wi-Fi, a resource magazine library and a play area for kids.
Hospitals surgeons, doctors and nurses may visit the Family Resource Center to meet, consult and update visiting families and friends with any surgery progress reports. The center is staffed by volunteers who can assist families and friends with finding the right patient room or the correct department after surgery. Volunteers can also provide patient status updates to loved ones.
