Target Audience
The course is designed for clinical leaders, practitioners, administrators and other healthcare professionals whose work involves improving and/or supporting clinical processes and clinical integration strategies or conducting related research. The target level is supervisors and above.
MCE generally follows Sutter Certified Leader 2 (operational) or Principles & Practice of Clinician Leadership 2 (clinical) in the Sutter Health University (SHU) Leadership Pathway and is recommended prior to Leadership Academy. Learn more information about the SHU Leadership programs. (Please note you must be on the Sutter Health Intranet to access the links)
Application and Selection Process
All MCE participants will be part of an MCE Project Team doing an improvement project which is aligned with local and organizational strategic goals. Teams are organized by a local Executive Sponsor who helps guide participant and project selection and project completion. MCE Project Teams should be determined locally prior to team members submitting applications.
Your MCE Project Team should ideally consist of 3-5 members. Participants have the following options for their MCE Project Team:
Group Applicants:
- Attend with a team from your department OR
- Attend with employees from other departments in your entity OR
- Attend with employees from your market area.
Individual Applicants:
- Join a team from an entity or market area with whom you work closely.
Apply Here by May 31, 2024 to be considered for the Fall 2024 Cohort.
MCE Participants are required to attend all 8 days. Participants should be aware that in addition to team time spent in class, time will be required outside of class to plan and carry out the project with members of their team and for foundational learning exercises.
All applications will be reviewed by MCE’s Executive Sponsors and selection committee prior to confirmation into the MCE Program.
The Project
During the MCE program, you will learn about the roles of people and evidence in medical and management decision-making. You will be given practical tools to improve outcomes and increase your overall effectiveness in clinical and non-clinical settings. To provide hands-on experience with these tools, you will work with a MCE Project Team on an improvement project that is aligned with Sutter’s strategic goals and objectives.
MCE Project selection should be done prior to the first day of the course and the team should convene in person or phone at least once before attending class.
Location
The MCE Program will be 8 days in person and locations may vary by cohort between the Sacramento Valley and the Bay Area. Please see the current application for more information.
Patient Partnership
We place a priority on bringing the patient and family perspective into the MCE program and into your improvement work. We require inclusion of a patient or family member on your MCE Project Team. You can also invite them to attend the MCE sessions with you, including your project presentation on Days 8.
