Dr. Gayle is currently team physician for the Oakland Raiders during the pre-season training camp and team physician for US Figure Skating. Previously, Dr. Gayle was the team physician for the U.S. National Rugby Team, head team physician for Fremont High School, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. Other memberships include: Society of Tennis Medicine and Science, International Society of Hip Arthroscopy (IHSA, American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA)
Personal Interests
Dr. Gayle has completed several national and international marathons. He enjoys swimming, tennis and is a music aficionado. He is conversational in Spanish and French.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Gayle specializes in sports medicine and advanced arthroscopic surgery with emphasis on arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow and knee, including cartilage restoration surgery. He is one of a handful of surgeons in the Bay Area and United States performing hip arthroscopy.
Following his medical degree and orthopedic surgery residency, Dr. Gayle completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) under the directorship of Dr. Warren King. During this time, Dr. Gayle gained extensive early exposure in treating numerous professional athletes and experience in the latest arthroscopic and reconstructive surgical techniques of the shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle.
Dr. Gayle served as assistant team physician for the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL), San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the San Jose Saber Cats of the Arena Football League. He also served as team physician for the U.S. National Rugby Team during numerous international matches spanning North and South America, Europe, South Africa, including the Rugby World Cup and Rugby Junior World Cup. He is currently a team physician for the Oakland Raiders during the pre-season training camp and for the U.S. National Rugby Team. He is head team physician for Fremont High School in Sunnyvale.
Dr. Gayle utilizes the latest arthroscopic techniques and has a special interest in Double Bundle ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction, double row arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, arthroscopic treatment of tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), cartilage restoration procedures of the knee and the emerging techniques of hip arthroscopy.
He has directed surgical seminars and cadaver courses in shoulder arthroscopy for orthopedic surgeons and has been regularly invited to lecture at the International Arthroscopic and Sports Medicine Congress in Peru. Dr. Gayle has also volunteered his clinical and surgical skills as visiting lecturer and surgeon at Mulago Hospital, Makere University in Uganda, Africa, where he taught orthopedic residents and medical students principles of arthroscopic surgery and trauma surgery.
Dr. Gayle is a former standout NCAA Division One collegiate soccer player. He earned a bachelor's degree in biology at Loyola University in Chicago.
