Clinical cardiac electrophysiology (electrical cardiology) is one of the more dynamic fields in all of medicine. The heart's electrical system is extremely complex and the tools we use to treat arrhythmias involve a variety of new technologies that are sometimes difficult to understand. I think it is important to take the time to explain the heart's anatomy and physiology to my patients. It is equally important that my patients understand the techniques we use to treat the heart's electrical problems. I draw pictures, show video clips, and do whatever is necessary so that my patients can make an informed decision about how to proceed. We make decisions together in my practice and I support my patients wishes at all times.
