Philosophy of Care
I recently returned to California after raising my two sons in Minneapolis. My youngest son is at Stanford and my eldest is not quite settled! I am thrilled to be back home and be able to practice medicine in the place I grew up. I enjoy the fast pace of Urgent Care and the variety of patients and medical problems I encounter.
I bring to my practice a variety of experiences. I graduated from Stanford in 1980 and worked in Florida as a VISTA volunteer. Eventually, I received a BSN in nursing and practiced in New York City, as well as Minneapolis. After receiving an MPH degree, I taught nursing for a period of time before finally going to medical school. My boys were 2 and 5 when I started, and they still say that their most favorite job of mine was when I was a resident and they could visit, eat pizza, sit on my bunk bed, and bring candy to the doctors in the emergency room.
I love being a doctor. It is a privilege to be able to participate in the lives of the patients I see. I chose Family Medicine because it is a specialty where I can bring together all my past experience. I work in partnership with my patients and believe hearing their story is an important piece in making decisions about health care. I view health holistically. The science of medicine is fascinating, but it is important -- even in the Urgent Care, to take into account my patients' emotional, spiritual and social well-being. My work with eating disorders has also allowed me to utilize my varied experience. Not only do eating disorders cause a tremendous emotional burden, but there are many medical consequences as well.
I look forward to meeting you and caring for you.
