Community Activities
Dr. Van Groenou loves serving in the community where she spent most of her life. She was driven to develop a wide scope of medical practice after volunteering in rural Mexico over the course of many years. There, she realized that access to both health care and good education is critical for a healthy community. More recently, she volunteered for over a decade on improving our local educational options by founding a Montessori charter elementary and middle school.
Dr. Van Groenou also wrote a book, The Active Woman’s Guide to Pregnancy, from Ten Speed Press, and has written countless articles for popular magazines to help make healthy choices understandable and accessible. Within the medical community, she served a six-year term in an executive leadership position for the Permanente Medical Group as the Assistant Physician in Chief for Physician Human Resources. There, she worked to implement effective support and physician development to improve outcomes, build more effective teams, and result in a sustainable work community.
Personal Interests
Dr. Van Groenou is an always-learning gardener and cook and lives on a “ranch” in the Fairview hills where farm-to-table is part of striving for a healthy lifestyle. She also loves traveling and exploring with her family.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Van Groenou comes to Sutter East Bay’s Urgent Care from a 20-year career in Emergency Medicine, most recently at Kaiser for the last 17 years, where she practiced in both the Emergency Department and Urgent Care settings, as well as provided virtual “on demand” care. A graduate of Stanford University, she returned to Stanford for her Internship, and completed Residency in Emergency Medicine at Denver Health.
Dr. Van Groenou is motivated to be there for patients when they most need help. Her passion is interacting with people from different backgrounds and efficiently solving the puzzle of urgent medical needs. Dr. Van Groenou relies on her skills for urgent procedures and a big smile to build trust during a quick visit. She believes good health is a collaborative process and works hard to communicate clearly and ensure patients’ needs are met. Her Spanish skills help too.
