Philosophy of Care
As a general surgeon with fellowship training in breast surgical oncology, I work with a multidisciplinary team to develop treatment plans for patients with breast cancer that incorporate the most relevant and recent data from clinical trials. It is essential that these treatment plans also incorporate the preferences of my patients. Breast cancer can be an overwhelming diagnosis, but it is my goal to effectively explain the surgical options that exist and make personalized recommendations based on tumor biology and each patient's priorities. I always seek to present surgical options with an understanding of how they may relate to radiation and medical oncology decisions. I perform nipple-sparing mastectomies, skin-sparing mastectomies, total mastectomies with aesthetic flat closure, partial mastectomies (lumpectomies), sentinel lymph node biopsy, and targeted axillary dissections. I also perform excisional biopsies or provide medical management for benign breast disease.
In addition to my breast surgery practice, I perform hernia repairs, cholecystectomies, and colorectal surgery. I frequently perform these operations using the da Vinci robotic platform. It is critical to me to perform each surgery with technical excellence and to care for my patients holistically.
