By giving millions of dollars back to the communities we serve, we fulfill our not-for-profit mission and make our neighborhoods safer and healthier places to live and work. In 2018, Sutter Health invested $734 million in community programs.

Sutter’s Partnerships
Provide ‘Gift of Surgery’

Through Sutter Health partnerships with community health programs, Leticia Sanchez received a total knee replacement at the Sutter Alhambra Surgery Center in Sacramento, as well as home health services through Sutter Care at Home for her recuperation period.

Sutter Helps Address
Homelessness Crisis

Our community partnerships support initiatives to move people into temporary shelters and provide respite care for those who need a safe place after being discharged from the hospital. Among our investments in 2018, Sutter gave $2.3 million to address homelessness in Sacramento and also financially supported three separate Community Cabin sites for homeless people in Oakland.

  • Climate Alliance

    Sutter helped form the California Healthcare Climate Alliance in 2018, bringing healthcare’s expertise to the legislative and regulatory process for climate-smart policies.

  • Practice Greenhealth

    Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento received two awards in 2018 from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in healthcare.

  • LEED Certification

    Sutter’s two new hospitals in San Francisco were designed to achieve the highest levels of certification from the group Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

  • Sustainability Efforts

    Sutter made great strides in sustainability in 2018, from new solar panels in our parking lots to reducing waste to bringing farmers markets that sell local, healthy foods to some of our campuses.

Sutter Honors Military Members

Our not-for-profit health network participated in Operation Care Package to donate supplies to military members, at home and abroad. We also contributed to a 2018 Veteran’s Day donation. We Donate to Food Banks

Sutter Supports March of Dimes

Since 1997, teammates across Sutter Health have raised more than $9.4 million to support March of Dimes in their life-saving research and educational programs to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. We Contribute to Disaster Relief
