Alice Santos had been feeling tired for a while. Then, one day at work she was having so much trouble breathing that somebody had to call 9-1-1. She needed heart surgery, but she had already had one heart surgery and didn't want to have another one. Only when Dr. Andrea Natale reassured her that everything would be OK did she feel like she could go with the operation. Santos' success was made possible, in part, because of philanthropists like Maurice Kanbar, for whom the cardiac center is named.
