  Affiliated with Sutter Health in 2001, Samuel Merritt University educates students for a life of highly skilled and compassionate service in healthcare. They provide professional leadership to meet emerging health needs and contribute to good health in the community.
  
  Samuel Merritt University was founded in 1909 as a hospital based diploma School of Nursing. It is a fully accredited health science institution located in Oakland, California. Samuel Merritt offers undergraduate degrees in nursing and graduate degrees in nursing, physical therapy, physician assistant, and occupational therapy. Doctoral degree in physical therapy, and Podiatric Medicine are also available. The baccalaureate nursing program is offered cooperatively with Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga.
  
  Nursing Programs at Samuel Merritt University
  The following nursing programs are offered:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Master of Science in Nursing with specialty tracks in Case Management, and Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
  Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELMSN)
  Our Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELMSN) program is designed for those who have already earned a baccalaureate in a non-nursing field and seek to shift careers or pursue a new academic goal. Currently there are two career paths for ELMSN students.
  
  Students graduate from our ELMSN program with exceptionally strong clinical skills. In fact, the program has the same pre-RN licensure clinical hours as our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, with the added component of courses specific to either the Case Management or the Family Nurse Practitioner programs. This means you will have the academic and clinical training to practice nursing in a variety of settings.
  
  The ELMSN program is offered at both the Sacramento and Oakland campuses.
